If you read science fiction you know how badly this side of things is usually handled. When aliens meet they usually have some machine (specs unspecified) which instantly translates their English into fluent Centaurian or Aldebaranian, or vice versa. Or they just quickly pick up a few names of familiar objects, as tourists do, and then ten times quicker than any tourist theyβre yakking away to six-legged unicorns or intelligent blobs of slime like interstellar Dr. Doolittles. I suppose thatβs understandable: they have Plots to get on with, I only have to tell you what happened to me. |
